Talking to Technology

In my view, the most important technological invention to benefit society would be the telephone. The telephone has made our lives easier in many ways. It has given us an extremely easier way of communication. It has given us a connection to the internet. Also, the telephone gives us a lifeline by calling 911 during an emergency. The largest way it has impacted our lives though is a communication source to almost anyone on the planet.

The most popular way to communicate in the twenty first century is by the phone. It has become popular because it is a far easier way to get a hold of someone. The phone has taken the place of the letters and notes that used to be written when you would want to speak to someone who was in an out of reach area. It used to take a very long time for a letter to be sent in the 1700’s. The string and cup idea didn’t exactly work  as well either. Even though letters are still being sent today, the phone has basically taken over in the ways of communication. Another way of communication the telephone has given us is the internet as well.

The internet and the telephone are very closely related to one another. If it wasn’t for the power lines and the satellites connecting phones to the same network, we wouldn’t have such a thing as the world wide web. The internet allows us to do many helpful tasks. It can allow us to communicate (like the telephone), look up information, give us news, upload information onto the web, blog and much more. One main source of communication over the internet is AIM. This program uses the satellites and telephone cables to connect to other computers and share text messages with other people using this same software. The telephone is also very useful in case you’re in an emergency situation.

The number to call during an emergency is 911. This number calls the police/paramedics. You should only dial this number when you absolutely need to. I feel that this is extremely useful because when your life is at stake, this gives you a chance. Anybody can call too, anywhere you are. Cell phones that are not even activated are still programmed to dial 911 successfully.

In my view, the telephone is the greatest technological invention to benefit society. It gives everyone an easier way to communicate to one another. Being if everyone has a working telephone. The phone gives us the internet. The internet gives us billions of sources of information and knowledge. The phone also gives us a lifeline call of 911. In emergency situations that no one else but officials can help should this number only be called. This invention of course benefits society. But my only question is, how did people come up with this?
